The mother of a 12 year-old girl suspected that her daughter had “developed” a learning disability….

Jane is a 12 year-old girl who was experiencing difficulties at school and at home. Her parents suspected that she may have a learning disability and brought her in for an assessment. The evaluation demonstrated that Jane’s academic and cognitive skills were all considerably above average and did not reveal any reason for her academic difficulties. However, testing revealed that she was suffering from depression and she was referred for treatment. Jane recieved the appropriate intervention for her depression. Jane’s parents also removed her from her current intensive academic environment into a less strenuous one. With these interventions, Jane showed immediate improvement.
